For all the KBNZ readers, I hope my absence from this portal of fun and happiness (AKA the KBNZ website) hasn’t been too traumatic to my dear readers. Okay, I may be laying it on a bit thick at the moment, but as you may have predicted, depending on how much perception you’ve had over the last couple of months, the person on the other side of the computer screen (AKA me) is now taking a hiatus from writing her monthly articles of raving drivel. This because other obligations have sprung up from the seemingly calm undergrowth of adolescence, I’ve decided to give up the keyboard for a while to focus on the coup de grace that is my last few months of school.
This month, I decided to shoot the philosophical breeze and expand my imagination into the future, past school and its ridiculous exams and assessments, and assess what on earth I’m working so hard for. I’m not sure how much you, the reader, follow my spiels, but I hope that I’ve managed to give off the impression that I’m a total school-aholic. I’m very pro-school, and this is influenced by firstly, myself, then my family, etc. Due to this fact, the thought of actually leaving school next year to go off to university is daunting.
Look in the mirror, who do you see? You might see yourself, as you know yourself, the same curly head, the same brown eyes that you have always known, since the first time you discovered a mirror. But do you ever wonder how the people around you see you? Through their eyes, they might see a young girl with a baby-face, or a haggard-looking student who looks like they’ve spent too many nights out. Through their eyes, they might see a stressed middle-age woman, presumably with two young kids that have been giving her a hard time,
You learn a lot in a lifetime, though sometimes the most important lessons are learnt in retrospective. To quote Epicurus, ‘Experience is the hardest teacher,
There are a lot of things on my plate at the moment. There’s your usual serving of rice, a chicken drumstick, courgette fritters, and a large handful of lettuce dressed with balsamic vinaigrette -- all heaped on smooth china.
Of all the OMFG moments in a young girl’s life, there are a few that can really top a meeting with someone of calibre like Hilary Clinton. For a total plebian like me, it was like a dream come true.
